Euphractus nationi
Its shell is level and with hairs that are implanted between the ribs of the shell. It has large ears, a nasal snout with little bone plates, hands with large claws on its four figners. Its body is yellowish grey. Unlike most species of armadillo, this one is primarily diurnal.

Distribution: Tarapacá (I region) and Antofagasta (II region) over 3,000 m.
Habitat: It is a lonely land mammal, which has many habitats in the Puna. It is omnivorous, feeding on a wide range of plant and animal matter. It protects and lives in caves.
