Explora Atacama

Explora Atacama Hotel offers an all-inclusive service so you can get to know the best landscapes of northern Chile. It is located a few kilometers from San Pedro de Atacama and was built on a site where an ancient Atacama community lived, the Ayllu de Larache.

The Explora Atacama Hotel is the base for all the excursions of the Andean highlands, one of the most complex ecosystems in the world. For this, we offer more than 40 explorations that can be done on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. Explore counts on horses trained for the climate and altitude. Mountain hikes and astronomical tours are included so that travelers will know the vastness of the desert.

The observatory was inaugurated in 2008, considered one of the best private observatories in Chile with advanced and high resolution telescopes. San Pedro de Atacama has one of the clearest skies in the world and Explora Atacama Hotel wants its travelers to participate in this experience.

Among its facilities, Explora has a quincho in the courtyard of a traditional adobe house that was refurbished and serves as a meeting point for all travelers of the hotel. It is there that roasts are made to the stick, meats and fish with different Chilean wines.

Another benefit offered by Explora Atacama is the Puritama Hot Springs, located 45 minutes from the hotel. Although the thermal baths are not private, Explora gives the privilege to its travelers to enjoy the first thermal pool exclusively.

Recommendations

For the excursions, it is recommended to bring a 25L backpack, 1st layer: top and bottom layers, 2nd layer: fleece, shelter layer, 3rd layer: down jacket, 4th layer: windbreaker, t-shirts, trekking pants, swimsuit, trekking boots, trekking socks (long), cap with visor, cold weather hat, cold weather gloves, buff or neck protector, and sunglasses.

San Pedro de Atacama is located in the Chilean highlands and many of its excursions exceed 4,000 meters above sea level (msnm). This can cause discomfort such as nausea and severe headaches. For this we recommend taking lots of water and keeping the body hydrated. The first day rest to acclimatize with the height and thus avoid the puna.
