Day 1: Arrival day
Transfer: Airport Hotel in Ushuaia
We will be waiting for you at the airport, and then take you to Hotel Albatros. You will have the afternoon to enjoy as you wish.
Day 2: Tierra del Fuego National Park
We will pick you up at Hotel Albatros and head southwest, taking National Route No. 3 towards Tierra del Fuego National Park.
In the eleven kilometers that separate the park entrance from the city of Ushuaia, we will stop at the golf course, where we will have excellent panoramic views of the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia Peninsula, and the Bridges, Willie, and Les Eclaireurs Archipelagos.
After crossing the Pipo River bridge, next to the Ushuaia Golf Club, we will reach the Austral Fueguino Railway Station, the End of the World Train. After visiting this picturesque station, where we can learn a bit about the history of this legendary train, passengers who wish to board the End of the World Train optionally can do so. The station has restrooms for those who need them.
The rest of the group will continue the journey for another 2 kilometers and enter the National Park, a reserved area for the protection of Subantarctic Forests, and native flora and fauna. We will visit Ensenada Bay, from where we will have excellent panoramic views of the Beagle Channel and its islands. We will then head to the Train Terminal Station to reunite with the rest of the group. This station also has restrooms.
On the way, surrounded by forests of Lenga trees and peat bogs, we will reach Lake Acigami (formerly Lake Roca), a glacial-origin lake covering 5.5 square kilometers, framed by mountains and forests, where native bird species can be spotted.
A few minutes from Lake Acigami, we will make a stop at the Alakush Visitors Center, where we will have approximately 20 minutes of free time. It has a café, restaurant, bathrooms, souvenir shop, and a small museum.
The last part of the excursion takes us to Lapataia Bay, after crossing the Cormorant Archipelago, peat bogs, and visiting a beaver dam. Here we will take a short trail to see the incredible work created by this small animal up close.
In Lapataia Bay, in addition to the marine coast, rich in mollusks and mussels, we will find traces of the ancient indigenous people who inhabited the region. We will have time to walk along the boardwalk, where we can take photos and enjoy the feeling of being at the end of the world.
From this point, the end of National Route No. 3, we will begin our return to the hotel.
Day 3: Beagle Channel Navigation
We begin the navigation departing from the Tourist Pier of our city, heading towards the Beagle Channel, enjoying the panoramic view of the Ushuaia coastline as we move away, spotting the most important buildings, the Maritime Museum (former prison), the End of the World Museum, the industrial area, and the Olivia and Cinco Hermanos mountains.
We head towards the Bridges Islands, where we make a stop and disembark.
In addition to the experience of walking on a small island in the middle of the Beagle Channel, the goal is to appreciate the following three key attractions:
Yámana Shell Midden: Archaeological remains of the original inhabitants of the Beagle Channel.
A few meters from the dock, we find the remains of Yámana or Yaganes settlements. We will enter one of them and, based on the guide's explanations, imagine how they lived.
Additionally, a cut in the wall of the shell midden will allow us to better understand and observe the stratification of discarded mussel shells.
Interpretation of the Flora of an Island in the Middle of the Beagle Channel:
As we walk through the interpretive circuit, we will appreciate the particular development that plants, flowers, and fruits reach in this special ecosystem.
We will reboard the boat and navigate southwest, approaching the Sea Lion Island, where, from the boat, we will enjoy the sight of sea lions in their permanent habitat, in a marvelous setting.
Continuing the navigation, we will head towards Bird Island, home to Magellanic Cormorants and Imperial Cormorants, and a privileged spot to observe marine bird species.
We will continue towards the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, located in the archipelago of the same name, where the ship Monte Cervantes sank in 1930.
At all these points of interest, the catamaran will stop and make several turns to allow passengers to take the best photographs.
The return will be through Paso Chico, passing by the Túnel and Fique Estancias, and we return to Ushuaia with a view of the imposing backdrop created by Mount Martial and its glacier.
Day 4: The End of the World Train
The Austral Fueguino Railway begins its journey from the End of the World station, following the same embankment that prisoners traveled 100 years ago.
It enters the Cañadón del Toro, crosses the Pipo River over the "burnt bridge," where you can see the wooden ruins of the old bridge under the new tracks.
The first stop is at the "Cascada La Macarena" Station. During this stop, it's possible to climb to a viewpoint that offers a fabulous view of the Pipo River valley, from where you can observe the source of the "La Macarena" waterfall.
The train continues its journey along the course of the Pipo River, passing through areas where you can see the traces left by the actions of the prisoners.
